Wannabe T6 Owner

We are looking to buy a T6 as a day van. I have a company car so we are hoping the T6 for my wife that can double as the family taxi and accommodation for adventures.

What we ideally want is:

Soundproofed and insulated.

2 x swivel captain chairs in the front.

1 full row of 3 seat ‘rock and roll’ type seat. Any recommendations on position and brand? I would ideally like m1 tester and was thinking of putting them in the Kombi position, happy to take advice on this.

The current car is an A4 sline avant so we want something equally sporty looking, (whether this is sport line or after market I will take advice)

I would also like advice a nice cockpit for the same reason.

I wanted to drop the suspension and add some nice alloys.

I’m thinking tail gate vs barn door although we have on street parking don’t know whether this is a problem.

I was thinking of a pop top either now or later. ( kids are only 1 and 3 at the moment)

Would then want some usb type power points dotted around. And some lighting. I think I might need another battery?

A decent shower (gas powered) would be great as we plan on wild camping.

We would probably get a portable fridge (again gas?).

Tinted windows if they’re not already in and blinds or curtains.

Any advice on the proposed set up would be great and brands etc on how to achieve it.

I was thinking a kombi would be a good base van either highline spec or sport line spec. Engine 100bhp plus it doesn’t need to rocket as long as it’s ok on the motorway 6th gear might be nice for that reason too.

Great to be almost hear and would love to hear your thoughts.

What sort of money you looking to spend?
Thanks for the reply I’m really naive to this we spent 18k on the Audi so prepared to go a little bit more north of this. I’m hoping early £20s?? Prepared to have a go at some of the stuff myself and some stuff like the pop top, body kit and perfect alloys could wait.

Does the £20k include the van and the conversion or one or the other? If you're looking to spend early £20s on the whole thing, you might have to lower your spec or up your budget.

The spec you have listed is probably late 20k on say a 66 plate. But early 20's would get a decent 66-17 plate highline and add to it as you see fit.

I think this was bang on with my research

Volkswagen Transporter Sportline Kombi 2.0BiTDI (204ps)(Eu6) T32 BMT SWB DSG

Sportline late 20’s in Kombi so just electrics, insulating and the rear rock and roll to do? £29k

Volkswagen Transporter 2.0 TDI BlueMotion Tech T30 Highline Kombi 5dr (SWB)

Highline spec in Kombi so insulation, Electric’s, seats and exterior to do? £20k

Volkswagen Transporter Panel Van 2.0 TDI (102PS) T28 Highline BMT SWB

Highline spec panel van so everything to do. £15k

What do you think of the bottom 2 would be the best base van, will there be much difference in finished project cost in your opinion?

The one for £15k plus vat is a seriously good price for a highline. But it has done some serious milage, so pros and cons. If you managed to do a lot of the stuff yourself on the spec you want, then i could see the total bill being about £22k plus vat. A lot of the stuff you have listed i wouldn't dream of attempting.
If this was done by a specialist company i don't think you would have much change from £14 k to get it to where you want it. I have all the above listed apart from shower and am so happy i went for a lwb. A 6th gear will only be on 140 ps and above, the white one you looked at it is 102ps. You will defo need another battery. I have barn door but i think tailgate looks better. Three seat rock and roll bed does limit cupboard space. Just remember this is your t6 and you can do whatever you like with it.
