It’s a doddle, the hardest part is jacking the van up and getting the wheel off. Don’t try to get the old one out intact, you won’t. Snap it off and screw a wood screw into the stub, then use a claw hammer to pull out the stub. Give the hole a good clean and fit the new sensor with a smear of copperslip.

thank you

You can get them out intact, last one I removed had been there 74K miles / 8 years, they contact on 4 small landings on the plastic body so there is ample space to get a good penetrating oil in.
Make sure you install with anti-seize grease.

Yeah really easy to do. Should be done in about 20mins including wheel on and off.

If It's front wheel drive, not a 4motion, you can also pop off the plastic centre cap to get at the bottom of the sensor and help pop it out. Just be careful not to damage the impulse ring.

best tip so far thanks. would you clean the ring before putting back together with either alcohol wipe or just a plain old baby wipe? also what tool do I need for the bolt for the sensor please trying to do this without jacking or taking the wheel of I like to do stuff the hard way 😅

Still easiest to take the wheel off. Plug can be sticky, cleaned out the whole area with brake cleaner, used penetrating fluid, removed sensor and cleaned out the sensor housing with a bit of light abrasive and then cleaned off with brake cleaner before putting back. A bit of anti seize applied to the new sensor.

You may need careful use of a round file to get the rust scale out of the bore, just flush it through with brake cleaner afterwards.
Don’t force the new sensor in, if it’s still too tight after cleaning you can shave off the plastic body with a craft knife blade.
The sensor needs to push home by hand, not with the securing screw.
5mm Allen key from what I remember.
I’m fairly sure these sensors fail due to the expanding rust crushing the coil, make sure it’s well coated with anti-seize grease and it should fail again.
I still have the originals on a 2001 Audi, engineered to last unlike these days.

that was a b*stard to get out, had to drill it out wood screws snapped. any tips for putting new one in waiting for delivery today. thanks all for your help but definitely a job I'd happily pay someone else to do. 😅😅

job complete thanks all for tips.

cleared codes all sorted also took the speed rating off all 4 wheels and all showing speeds within range so happy, until another one goes
