Road tax banding doesnt change (or at least it didnt on ours).
Depends on weight and engine size.

A motor caravan up to 3500kg is classified as a Private Light Goods vehicle and attracts a VED of £375 (£230 if under 1550cc)
A motor caravan over 3500kg is classified as a Private Heavy Goods vehicle and attracts a VED of £165
A panel van up to 3500kg is classified as a Light Goods Vehicle and attracts a VED of £360
A panel van over 3500kg is classified as a Heavy Good Vehicle and attracts a VED starting from £165, though there's currently a "promotional rate" of £1... apparently. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yep , Its not the motor caravan status that brings it down though its the HGV classification .

I converted my stock SWB T6 Kombi to a Motor Caravan before the later restrictions on V5 changes, there is no difference to the road tax classification and rate after conversion. The rate paid depends on the CO2 emissions and on this van DS15 XGV it’s an N1 with 224g/Km and 3500Kg max GVW according to gov.uk
