Using A Tent Instead Of Drive Away Awning

One point to consider is that some sites won't allow separate tents. However, these are also the sites you really don't want to stay at so no big loss as long as you check in advance.

We turned up at one such site last year and they wouldn't even let us put up a small pop-up tent.

Some sites have the policy to protect the grass, which I can sort of understand, but I think most are just being difficult!
