TYRE HELP PLEASE.

My wheels are set of
8.5x20 & 10.0x20, load rated.
I plan on lowering as low as can comfortably without rubbing.
I've purchased tyres 4x 265/40/20
I went with 40 rather than 35 for comfort.
I'm now thinking perhaps I should have went wider tyre on rear 275/40/20 cause staggered 10-wider fitment on rear.
(Tyres not fitted yet)
Experienced thoughts from anyone ?

i think those tyres are too big and your speedo will be out by quite a bit..
change to 19,s much less hassle and you can lower more too..
your choice thou 20,s do look good

How low do you want to go and is your van T32? If T32 then 265/40 is a good choice to give you correct load rating. I run 10” rears and 9” fronts with 265/40. Speedo accuracy is very good, pretty much spot on and verified using 3 GPS speed apps.
Also, ref lowering, I’m about 80mm down and not rubbing. I had to tweak the front arch liner a little, but nothing crazy.
Stick with those sizes and stick with your 20s, it’ll look spot on. 275/40 is too big.

Someone on another form posted a photo of their 265/40/20 on 10j staggered. Im happy with the way it looks, I can see tyre is slightly stretched and being pernickety I would prefer a little slack to protect against kerbs, although I guess if a kerb really wants to hurt a tyre its gonna do it regardless. Im not T32 I'm T30 although converting to camper so alloys an tyres are load rated. Looking at psi someone mentioned 40psi someone else says rule is 2psi per diameter inch 20"=40psi and an online calculator said 30psi

But does not look great stretch on rear and fat on the front why would you use the same width tyre on staggered width rims

Looks fine in my opinion, I ran 275/35 on staggered, each to their own and all that though of course.
Only problem with the tyre sizes you are running is that they are oversize, a lot of people (especially if lowered) would rather have a bit of stretch on the rear than doing that.

Wh

What load rating is your 245?

I assumed the 245/40r20 was a typo and that 245/45r20 was what @Richard f meant, hence my oversize comment.
No load ratings suitable in a 245/40r20 and there would be a fair difference in front to rear diameter if paired with a 275/40r20.

Nanyang 245/40/20 103y xl
Didn't think they did one rated to that in this size, thought most were 95/99xl, every day is a school day. Which nankang are they?
Does the just under an inch difference in diameter to the rears not bother you then? Not as much as a bit of stretch obviously :)

I first had 245/45/20 and Got 20k from them and there is 1mm between the front and back but they just looked wrong so I tried the 245/35/20 and bent the rim so these 245/40/20 came along and no I didn’t mind the stretch on the rear it’s the oversizing on the front

A 265/40 on the front rim (8.5 or 9) doesn't look that bad.
A 275/40 on an 8.5 rim (which seems to be common in a lot of these staggered sets) on the other hand though, just looks plain wrong, whilst also being oversize in diameter. A lot of wheel/tyre suppliers and van convertors seem to fit and recommend this size. I assume it is to do with price (ie. make more money) and ensuring they are sufficiently rated for a T32.
Are you changing the rears to match the fronts eventually or sticking with the 275/40 on the rear? How wide are are your rears?
You got any pics?

I run those exact wheel sizes and dropped around 80mm all round.

IMO 275/40 on the rear looks nice with just a bit of stretch whilst retaining a level of comfort.

Currently running 255/40 on the front but they have a little more bulge so will be swapped for 245/40 when needed. I think this will make it look more even on the tyre walls. Assuming you can get the above sizes to suit your load ratings and type of tyre you want. Mine are Falken FK510’s and been pleased with them.

No rubbing on the above setup with the front liner tucked behind the arch fixing.
