Trimming Altro walkway 20

Anyone out there experiencing difficulty trimming your altro flooring to you ply sub floor? I got everything cut and glued and ready to trim yesterday with my Bosch trim router, but the Altro flooring just ate all of the edge trimming bits.

I’m thinking of now if switching to my 1/2 inch router and 1/2 bits to get the job done. I’m just super surprised how much of a toll the flooring exerted on my 1/4 inch set up.

Use Stanley blades, preferably the hooked ones and make sure you have plenty of them. I suspect your router blades aren’t holding up because the Altro has a grit material in it to give the texture and also grip and that’s what’s killing your router bits
Thanks very much for the advice airhoguk! Should’ve just gone for a softer easier to trim covering. Think I’ll have to persevere. Trim off as much as possible with the hooked blades then stomach a couple of new router bits to give the chamfer that occurred late last night in a bit of a panic.

Thanks again!

Yep, stanley blades are the way to go. Altro has small bits of aggregate in it to provide the non slip so will kill your router blades quick.
Heat it up with a hot air gun (don't over heat it) and use a sharp hooked blade and go slowly.......Will be much easier.
You could also flip over the board so the the altro is face down and score lightly round the edge of the ply with a straight stanley blade first to brake the back. Then flip right side up and use the heat and hooked blade as said.........welcome to my world, I've been fitting that stuff for over 30 years, that's a scary thought!!

Wow! That’s decades of service Bubba! Thanks for the great advice. I’m planning on using the remaining altro in another couple of places in the van so will heed the words!

Why did I jump on the forum last week? Plonker!
