To pop or not to pop?

Hello! Just bought my first ever VW van!! Owned 3 beetles ( 1 aircooled) and have eventually forked out last Easter on 'Daisy -Blue' ...Currently part converted - carpet lined, spots, electrics, swivel seats, flooring, curtains etc but no bed, kitchen or pop top. Possibly slightly controversially, I'm not sure if I want the rock n roll bed and kitchen as I tend to use it quite a lot to transport stuff ( this is my one and only vehicle now) but I DO want a pop top....for height and to sleep in, leaving 'downstairs' free of bed stuff. I have visited bot Denby and Leisure Drive ( I'm in Manchester) but looking at as many options as I can before I ttake the plunge. I see a lot of people talk about thin mattresses...is it not possible to use an inflateable one up there? ( Obvs when plugged in). Also what is the width? Can 2 people sleep up there or just one? .......SO many questions, but for the moment this will do! Thank-you

Your best bet would be hire one to try out
Other people's opinions will vary some for some against so other than trying one for a few days your never really know

Can't manage another "to be or not to be?" soliloquy today so straight to the point, yes, stick a pop top on and sleep on a memory foam mattress topper or a barrage balloon, add camping cooking/ chilling gear and a leisure battery/portable power supply and you have a van for work that you can camp in when not grafting!

Thanks Bargy62, this is good advice, I could just really do without spending the additional money as it's defo something I'll be doing, just trying to find best companies and ask about hardness of bed mainly. Maybe it didn't come across like that. Do you know if you can put an airbed, like a normal thickness double airbed ? I have a bad back and i know my camping thermorest mattress would be too uncomfy for me.

Well, I'm a primary school teacher, so the van isn't specifically for 'work' as such! but I hear you! Thanks for the reply. Already have the leisure battery and diesil heater installed too, just the dearest bit to decide on. Any companies you'd recommend looking at for the roof conversion?
