The eternal battle….headlights in Europe

Hey all

So I’m in the throes of buying a nice RHD 20 plate T6.1 DSG Highline, that’s newly been converted to a camper.

I’m moving to Germany however and will be registering it over there. As such, will need my headlights done to pass the equivalent of MOT.

Having spoken to a VW van centre today, and THQ, it sounds as if it may be trickier than first suspected - with replacement LED headlights not just plug and play and coming with a load of wiring difficulties which throw up lots of faults.

So question is - do I need to do anything? It’s the halogen headlights in currently. Can they be exchanged for OEM LHD halogen headlights easily? I don’t really want to get LEDs…..

Any advice appreciated !

The only difference between LHD and RHD halogens is the form of the dipped beam reflector.

Thanks that’s Awesome - so realistically you think they could be an easy swap if I’m able to get my hands on a pair of LHD ones?

Hi I worked in Germany for 20 years and life will be easy for you when you buy a Transpoter over there because of it will normally be in better condition because of the TUV (MOT) and insurance for a camper van.

Headlights are a straight swap RHD to LHD
Be aware of you have halogen rear lights with a single reverse and single foglight they will be on the wrong side, its an easyish fix but you will need to run a couple wires from the rear lights to get the extra feed to each side
