Found T6 Jack, etc

Hello folks,

I've got an ex-RAC T6, but a recent need to use the jack revealed that I appear to have an unsuitable Ford scissor jack and a crappy Ford wheel brace too. Interesting, but certainly not the end of the world. (Although I suppose these are now standard kit on the T7 ).

However, if anyone happens to have the genuine articles available for sale (together with any similar bits - towing eyes, etc) I would be very pleased to hear from you. I'd rather not be caught out in the pouring rain on a motorway hard shoulder at night, which is usually when these equipment issues are first discovered.

Most people would give you their OEM Jack for free if they weren't concerned about getting sued in the future for helping you lose an arm, or worse.

Buy a decent bottle jack. Far safer and reliable.

I keep a trolly jack in the storage box in the back. I had an accident with the oem jack which crushed my hand between the rear arch and the tyre when the van slipped off. Very painful and very flat fingers. Worst thing VW ever made (including the H4 headlight units)

I've got a Mercedes Sprinter bottle jack off ebay - there's loads of them on there

Someone probably put the crappy wheel brace & unsuitable jack in there, as they were far superior to the VW supplied ones. Which are death traps. A 5t Aldi bottle jack, a couple of 6” squares of 20mm ply and a 24” breaker bar with a 19mm deep socket will see you right.

Don’t forget to check that it will go under the van when you’ve got a fully flat tyre.

Thanks @Ayjay. I borrowed a Merc Sprinter jack from a friend of a friend. Glad I did, didn't fit under the front end at all and wouldn't have gone under the rear if the tyre was flat. Going to choose a bottle jack carefully
