T6.1 Tailgate release/handle removal

Hi all,

Had a search but couldn’t find the answer - does anyone know what I’m missing to allow me to take the tailgate release handle out?

I’ve removed the 3 bolts, 2 connectors and the cable, is there something else holding it in?!

Ok this video just shows it should wiggle out?! Will try again tomorrow!

It did indeed wiggle out with a little more force.

Had to remove the locking barrel to get it to sit nice and flush but all done

Was yours showing any signs of corrosion like in the video?

Fair bit of muck under there but no corrosion

I've been thinking about doing mine for years, can I ask what parts you had to buy and where from, cost etc ? Cheers

Hey Chippy,

Part number for the primed T6.1 tailgate handle cover is: 7E0829139 GRU

My local VW commercial dealer (Cordwallis in Bicester) kindly provided the part for £72.60. Getting it sprayed was £48

So £120.60 in total which is a drop in the ocean for this van!
