T6.1 OEM led headlights retrofit

So with the Christmas holidays approaching, I will concentrate on getting under way the factory led headlights retro fit to my van.

I have now managed to aquire all the parts. I tried to keep the single wires as close to oem colours and sizes as I could.

While I have the front cab flooring up, will also run in the additional wires for the heated seats that I want to get done at a later date.

Will update as and when I get things in place.

Interesting project, looking forward to seeing updates. Can I ask where you sourced the parts from?

I think you will be impressed with the led lights so will be worth the effort, are you fitting the auto main beam as well

Thanks, I do like a little project. Like all my retrofits I source the parts from a multitude of places.
Partsoug.com for diagrams and part numbers
LLL parts (DRL/indicator module)
The oem shop (sensors)
Parts in motion (headlights)
12v planet ( various wires, conduit, clips,adapters
Ebay (LCM modules)

I may go down high beam assist route. If so I think I will sway towards the interior mqb mirrors.

Another small update to this retrofit.
All the wiring is now in place and pinned to the relevant connectors and pins according to factory current flow diagrams.
Front and rear level sensors, 2x25amp fuses now fitted.

I said it before, adding the additional 12v KL30A supply wires to the correct fuseway of the interior SC fusebox never gets easier 😅. Whilst there, I got the supply wire for the future heated seat mats I want fit in the coming months in place to. But left the fuse out for this future retrofit.

Another point to mention, access to the B Plug BCM for the KL58 wire that I assume powers the 55 headlight regulation module is quite tricky to get pinned in. Again space is almost no existent. I had to go through the opening of the SC fusebox aperture. Good job I have small girly hands.
I did read somewhere that if you removed the cluster you would be able to pull these looms up to this recess. For whatever reason this was absolutely a no go for me. The main loom sits directly above the BCM and I feared damaging the plug connector trying to get it through would happen. Not to mention that the length of this loom tails are very short.

And one small obvious tip. Please mark the bottom of the bcm if you removed it. Do not be this idiot sitting here writing this and put it in upside down and lose an hour of your life while you can not work out why the plug connectors were so obliging to come out but not to go back in😅😂.
Don't be that guy 👍.

Great job so far, man. I was looking into this a few years ago when i got my van but i never got around to figuring it out. I may give it a go after seeing you complete it. Eagerly watching

Finally with a nice dry afternoon, I managed to remove the front bumper and get the new wiring plugs in position.
Halogen headlights use the same low beam connection on bcm that the led headlights use, so was a simple case of splicing this on to the correct pin of newer 14pin led headlight plug.
To tidy the existing halogen headlights looms up, I de-pinned these, heat shrinked some tubing over crimp ferrules and loomed them with new wiring loom I made for the leds.

All going well, will hopefully get the bloody things fitted and coded this weekend fingers 🤞 😅

Hi, no unfortunately as I am not qualified or insured to be dismantling other people's vans. I do this solely from a 'diyer's' pov. I'll share my coding works once I figure out what's what, but like I say this is not an 'how to', more like what 'I have done'

So waiting all this time for a good afternoon to no avail.
One dodgy lcm headlight module put an end to that 😄.
On the other hand, power and grounds proved, and with that I took a punt and powered up 55 module.
Had a moment (brain fart) why I could not see this on gateway.
Hence, 55 module is powered from a dedicated leuchte 2 channel via KL58L.

Checked the leuchte 2SL channel on factory led headlights t6.1's to confirm this was not an anomaly. It is a dedicated channel on all vw t6.1 bcm. Whist there altered adaptions on other leuchte channels from the same dataset I was able to obtain.

The power is only supplied (KL58L) when low light levels are met or manually turning headlight switch to low beams. Makes total sense as this controls the low and high beams via level sensors.
Drl and side lights are fixed leds so not required for auto range I assume.
Not much information out there on this retrofit for the t6.1 including adaption changes so will share what I have or have not figured out. Feel free to add any other snippets I may or could do better please chaps.
All going well should get the new lcm in the coming days, and go again lads.

Will look at the sensors voltages to see what's what with these as well. Everything connected to factory schematics

Finally got the lcm. Fitted, correct datasets uploaded to this D7 module (same version as D6) and we are all complete for fitment, full functionality, no errors codes relating to the headlights only for the two missing wheel sensors that I will fit over the coming days.
Coding was not that difficult in the end.

55 module just needed coding changes made to it. Easy enough to do from a vctool backup server.

09 adaptions was not to difficult to navigate either.
Leuchte channels 0 1 3 4 5 8 9 all set to 'not active' on load settings. These are now controlled by D7 D6 datasets.

Leuchte 6ABL 7ABL low beams. Pics of adaption changes in pics.

Leuchte 2SL is now your dedicated KL58L supply for 55 module. Pic of adaption changes required.

'Fernlicht assistant' adaption changes in pic. This will activate your high beam led module from headlight switch dial and indicator stalk with forward push.

'Aubenlicht uebergreifend' Adaption changes for your coming home leaving home feature in Pics.

And version of software for D7 D6 datasets and paramatise of these modules. In Pics
No coding or adaption changes required for these.

One last thing to note. Your roller dial fir manual adjustment of the existing halogen headlights is no longer required and can be removed. There is a blanking cover available from your dealership of LLL parts.

very Impressive🤯 did you make up the loom for the level sensors. I was hoping it was a part you can buy. Looking at the parts diagrams it gives all bits for the level sensors and the headlight range control unit but couldn't find a loom.
Thanks Ash

Hi Ash, I made everything required by myself. Was easy running in the template wires for the required routes and then using these as templates for the looms.

I thought that might of been the case. Very OEM :)

Did you end up needing the range control unit? couldn't see where it got installed. Noticed there is a bracket for it that sits under the dash. Sorry for all the questions, like you say there isn't a huge amount of info out there on this retro fit and this is the first detailed example I've seen.

No problem at all mate Ask away.

Range control module is situated under drivers seat. It mounts to a bracket.
You will need to remove your manual roller dial button by headlight switch as this is no longer required. There is a dedicated blanking cover fitted in its place.

Range control is now required for the automatic headlight motors. Sensors on front right and rear right wheels operate this.

These Sensors need to be genuine t6.1 ones. Do not buy the cheaper ones advertised elsewhere. Vw dealership visit for these parts or LLL parts.

You might regret saying that :fast rofl:

I only use the genuine stuff for sensors and parts, It just reduces the risk of it not working properly. Think I've found most the genuine parts just few variations in codes that I'm not sure on

The range control unit is 7P6907357EZ00 I'm guessing the 7P6907357E is just for the cornering light and not range control?

what headlights did you use 7L2941035E and 7L2941036E? or the ones ending in D. as far as I can tell they are the same and the D/E is a revision thing.

Do you have part numbers for all the plugs, trying to work those out is a pain.

That partsouq website is a great find BTW. Gone down a rabbit hole looking at all the parts diagrams
