T6.1 Kombi Side Panel Storage Net Ideas?

Hi all,

I’m looking to fit a cargo net to the rear side panel of my T6.1 Kombi for a couple of bodyboards and wet beach gear.

I’m thinking M6 rivnuts with eye bolts or tie-down loops through the panel, but I’m unsure where the best fixing points are or whether there are factory holes/strong sections behind it.

Has anyone done similar? Photos or advice on fixing locations and suitable nets would be appreciated.
I’ve attached what mine is currently looking like and an AI example of ish the plan.

Wet beach gear will pretty quickly destroy the panel as the board is only a fibre material and not water resistant in the slightest.

Yeah I’ll likely either replace with a new ply board and line it with foam/rubber. Any advice on the install?

From the way it looks they suggest rivnutting through the board. Personally I’d drill clearance holes so that the rivnuts only mount to the metal behind and treat any holes before issuing the rivnuts. I’d also consider a sheet behind that leads any water or grit into the collection tray otherwise some of it will get under the flooring and lead to corrosion

I'd rivnut the existing panel mounting holes rather than drilling new ones.

Sounds like a plan, the panel seems straight forward to remove. Just need to find some decent points behind to use. Was hoping to find a photos of the panel removed to map it but should be straight forward.

Thats the way I'd go. Always mount my units ect on my own van the same way.
