T6.1 head unit upgrade options - Any problems with the Discover Media?

I have the basic version and everyone who speaks to me on the hands free says the quality of the call is dogshit. I’ve been told it’s the head unit, I have got the 8 inch upgrade just waiting to get it fitted as told even after buying the unit etc I still needed Around 500 to fit. I’m not sure whether to sell up and go to the 9inch instead or try the ‘pluscenter’ head unit. I’m all for genuine really but when parked up wouldn’t mind using the screen with full potential to mirrror the phone etc
 
Go for the 8” version. The 9.2” has no volume knob which is annoying, has buttons in the unit instead. Wish I had gone 8” instead if 9.2”. It’s not significantly bigger.

Is the volume knob used for anything else? I never actually use the volume knob on my basic unit as I always use the steering wheel buttons.
 
I had the Discover Pro fitted by @Dav-Tec It looks so much better than aftermarket. It's been faultless since fitting. Love the sleek look and no buttons. Like you I use the steering wheel for most things so doesn't bother me at all. Coupled with the virtual cockpit it's great.1000011648.jpg1000011663.jpg

I always use the volume knob, hardly use the steering wheel for it, dunno why, just a habit

If it goes wrong I will definitely fit a halo, like we do weekly for owners , far better sound quality,

Do you think the issues you have with the Discover unit are very rare, or quite common? I’ve not read many complaints about it.

How much better is the sound from the Halo 9 / 11 than OEM?

I’d prefer the look of OEM rather than the floating screen.

I believe there are 2 or 3 differnt versions (read manufacturers) for each version of the OEM units. Are any better (less problematic) than the others?

No I wouldn’t say rare as getting more owners contacting us with issues.

There is no comparison between the sound quality of OEM over the Alpine, cleaner signal, more powerful and infinite sound adjustments

Apparently you need to swap the SOS module for a highline version. You still get a red flashing light on the SOS module (unless some ‘firmware’ is flashed onto the module to update it).

I found a used T6.1 module, but I'm not sure if it's possible to adapt it to my car or if I need to buy a new one. I'm also not sure if it's possible to upgrade the SOS to a high-end version, as a low-end module was registered in VW manufacturing. I imagine that component protection will be included in the second-hand SOS module.
