T5 2007 Tailgate Handle Reinstall Help

Hi all,


I’m new to the T5 journey and recently bought a 2007 T5 through a friend. Thought I’d tidy it up a bit and replace the tailgate handle, as the old one was scruffy and the paint had started to flake off. What a nightmare that turned out to be!


After about 5 hours I finally managed to remove it, but now I’m struggling to get it working properly again. The handle won’t fully open the tailgate lock, and I’ve removed and reinstalled it about five times now trying to sort it.


I’ve checked YouTube but can’t seem to find any decent videos showing the correct reinstall process.
Any advice, photos, or tips would be massively appreciated — or if anyone can recommend somewhere local that could take a look, I’m based in Tamworth.

Whatever you do .Do not open the black box . I opened that up to sort an issue with mine after I had removed it and it fell apart. I ended up getting a 2nd hand lock and barrel. It was a long time ago and i just remember it was a horrific job.
