Starting problem

T.5.1 Dsg ,So ignition won’t go by 2nd position off key as if steering lock was locked or wasn’t in park, recovery said probably starter ,I don’t think so. Any thoughts. Thanks

So you can't actually physically turn the key far enough to start the van, or does it turn but just not crank?

Key turns to 2nd dent all dash lights come on but that’s as for as the key goes

I’ve had it before, when dust is on the key and it won’t start and steering wheel lock is on. I just force it in that bit further and twist steering wheel at the same time. First time it happened I ditched the van and walked home. Probably happened 5-6 times since. Might be worth a try.

i was going to suggest turning the steering wheel. the steering lock may be slightly jammed and wiggling it one way or another might be enough to free it then can start possibly. The other thing I have no real knowledge but is it possible to temporarily remove the impediments and safe guards
that prevent starting if the wiggle does not work?

So it was the ignition switch, just for reference for any one else who has this problem.
