We (well me and maybe a few others on here!) lost one of the true jazz greats earlier this week in Sonny Rollins who died age 95 on Monday . I've been a jazz nut almost since I first heard music (got it from my mum) and IIRC, the first jazz album that I ever bought with my own money was Sonny's Saxophone Colossus some time in the mid to late 1960s. I saw him a few times over the years when he was always brilliant. I actually met him on one occasion and he seemed like a really nice guy who gave the impression that he managed to avoid the demons suffered by some of his contemporaries. RIP Sonny - you managed to burn so very brightly for a long, long time for which I thank you.
