My van came with some sidebars on, but they’re a bit in the rusty side. Instead of sorting them out I’m thinking about just changing them. Are they quite easy to do yourself, and do you have to jack the van up or can you get away without doing that?

Also has anyone got any suggestions for black sidebars that won’t rust immediately?

Easy enough job to do, should be 1 bolt at each end hold him them on to a bracket. If the sidebars are rusty its highly likely the bolt holding the side bar on could shear off, but if your replacing them anyway that's not an issue.

Transporter HQ sell stainless steel trapezoid style bars which I've fitted previously and have been good. I notice they now have the option of including ppf which I would recommend if you are going for a powdercoated set.

I’m in the same boat
I will replace them with these.
They are powder coated stainless steel

I've just changed my tubular side bars as they have become shells of powder coat filled with iron oxide cornflakes.
Bought a set of DST Automotive stainless steel side bars (£176) and had them post them direct to F&M Powder Coating in Preston for black nylon coating to be done. (around £100).
I picked them up at F&M so can't say what the postage would be from there.
I prefer nylon to polyester powder coating, seems a bit more durable.
