Should tents be banned or segregated?

I only ever camped once, about 25 years ago, at Kelling Heath.
It was bad, like the wild west, drunks fighting, loud arguments, foul language, the whole lot.
The men were even worse.
By midnight I was packing the tent and kids in the car and leaving.
I've never been on a camp site since.
So in reality I've never camped, as we didn't stay!
That is such a shame for you and your family. I would find that situation intolerable also. You might prefer something out of season and in a less popular place.

IMHO, there’s always been aholes in all walks of life it’s just that nowadays there seems to be an awful lot more of them around.
It does feel a lot worse.
I don’t think the press or politicians help - the incessant want to split people into neat groups and pit them against each other. And ‘free’ news on the internet, with ‘smart’ phones means we are all subjected to their non-stop bile.

Ironic that we are more connected than ever before yet that makes us less thoughtful/caring/willing to share. it can sometimes feel the complete opposite in fact.

Why I love leaving the UK to head to Spain, there the natives are generally people seeking to be friendly and mix first instead of banging wind breaks into their plot to hide behind.

I agree. We went to Cornwall a few weeks back in a borrowed caravan as ours wasn't ready and had a similar experience. Ended up on a large plot next to the eldest lad and the amount adults and kids who almost walked into the caravan A frame was laughable. I had to park.my van to stop them walking so close to it as I was so annoyed. Had a campervan who thought it was fine to have music till 130am and 3 tents with about 10 kids set up a footy pitch by us in the second wesk..They got told where to go very quickly but politely. I was happy to.pack up.and go home and day later as it would have ruined tye holiday. I suppose I must be at the grumpy age as well, or just hate people with no respect to others!!

The key for me is to thoroughly research where you will be staying. This takes more time and can limit your options but is essential in my opinion. If you use Pitch Up for instance you can filter by review score which tends to be a fair benchmark of what your stay will be like. We tend to prefer semi wild camping now where you generally get a much more generous pitch and they tend to be more peaceful. There is a compromise of course in that generally the facilities are more basic, however with a good set up you can enjoy a pretty comfortable stay.

We did the usual holiday park type sites when we had young kids but didn’t enjoy them for the reasons in the original post but the holidays were all for the kids then. Now I couldn’t think of anything worse and very rarely use any campsites, both my wife and I have to deal with people every day, usually complaining about something. So we tend to head away from society as far as we can. We generally wild camp around wales when we can but do have a few basic farmers field type sites we use that are nice and quiet. We’re normally in bed by 9 and up at 6, then head out into the mountains even further away from people.
We were given a pitch on a site as a gift recently so didn’t know what to expect, but turned out really nice, and we did quite enjoy it, adult only site and 10pm noise curfew, campers/caravans around the outside and tents in the middle. Ironically though, the only noise was a group of tents playing music in the middle.

I woke up this morning thinking I was being a grumpy b*stard last night but have been on a lovely long walk today stopping in a pub where we had a good chat with a fellow T6 owner, they are staying on a quiet little site in the other side of town which they’ve stayed on before and love, normally, this time there are 2 tents worth of families and kids with the kids running around shouting and screaming into the night. They hoped it would stop when it got dark but no they got out the glow sticks and carried on.

So anyway, feel better now about moaning :)

Sending this from our pitch in a smoke cloud from our neighbours fire pit (again shouldn’t complain too much about this as last night they fired it up, cooked their food then let it go out)

That’s what kids do, people complain if kids sit on their Ipads all day and they complain if their running about and active……just like it was in the good old days.

I disagree. That's what inconsiderate parenting is about! Kids should be taught there is a time and a place for that sort of behaviour and amongst a field of fellow campers definitely ain't the place. I would never have let my 2 kids go wild on a campsite !!

unfortunately it's the time of year School holidays the site we went to with the grandkids we go to regular and what a difference some proper scummy families some pis*ed up dad walking about with a can of beer in his hand and his kid was an ar*shole as well with a plastic bottle wedged in his bike so it clatted the spokes riding round in the dark to 11pm
and to cap it all someone took a dump in one of the showers if this was my first visit I would never go back but I know better
if it wasn't for the grandkids I would never go away in summer holidays.

KIds go ferrel the last couple of weeks of the school holidays. I think it's great. I just try and go with the flow. We was all young once even back in the Victorian era. 😂

Are we really saying that undesirables only camp in tents? That's not my experience - equally likely to be in a campervan (though, of course, not in VW campers ;)).
I’m not saying they only camp in tents but I think I’m saying if you eliminate the tents you would go quite a long way to eliminating the problem. They are not invested in camping, they often know little about it and generally campsites would be better places without them

IMG_6697.jpegLights back on and flashing now (for the “don’t put your dog in the tumble dryer” crowd) as despite being lite up like a Xmas tree someone still seems to trip over a guy last night rocking the van and waking us up

Edit: sorry the photo might appear a bit foggy, that’s from the fire pits
