Scottish Road Trip 2025

Thanks :)

Scotland can be very underrated (folk think it rains 90% of the time up there), we found and still do find it constantly amazes us! I'd move there given half the chance.
We get very little rain throughout the whole year now up here on the east coast.
Virtually totally dry and sunny from April to September seems to be the norm for Scotland now.
We’ve stopped going abroad for sunny holidays now.
We get loads of sun here now and I think Scotland is the most beautiful country on the planet.

We talked to a couple from Elgin and they said its been great up there, they had spent lots of time outdoors for once!

Other friends up near Dingwall have posted lots of pics with lovely weather and days ideal for walking and getting out into the countryside.

We love it up there, such a beautiful part of the UK!

....but when we arrived in Port a Bhaigh, what an absolutely stunning village, especially when we found out we had a sea view pitch!

Again, not an overly large campsite, facilities spot on with a well stocked shop and pub at the top of the drive. Port a Bhaigh Campsite in the beautiful Scottish Highlands

The views over The Summer Isles out to Lewis and Harris were amazing, we loved it!

We stayed at this site when we hired a van before buying in. Really nice site, we had a great time there, the kids went in the sea and I went in the pub, everyone happy!

Fantastic spot, especially if you get sea view pitches! The pub was great, had a nice meal and a few decent beers in there. The sea was lovely, bit cold though as the dog found out!

Thank you for this post (and those that followed up).
I am in the planning stages - the bit I really like and it's probably changed 50 times.

Leeds > Arran > Oban > Loop back to Hadrian's Wall > Home.

Everything I like. Mountains, coast, old ruins.....

We’re putting ideas together for 2026, maybe Arran, maybe Mull, maybe east coast up to the top, it’ll change numerous times!!

Wherever we end up, you guys end up it’ll be great!

Great pictures ! Suggest you should try the Outer Hebrides. Absolutely stunning but different to Scotland which we also love and have visited every year since 2016 (when we got our camper).
A great off the main route road trip in Scotland (east coast to NW) as follows

Helmsdale take A897 to Kinbrace. Take B871 to Syre. Turn left on B873 to Altnaharra. Either turn right on to A836 to Tongue and Durness OR go straight across towards Hope and the Durness

Have a look on the map and try it sometime

Durness is great, right at the top. Nearly bought a house there once, but I failed in my efforts to transfer to Dibble Jockland. You'd think they'd have bent over backwards for a fellow celt, but hey ho.
