Scenic Roof Or Not?

Hi

I am trying to work out whether I want a scenic pop top roof or not.

It was the other half who brought it up. We are having a Skyline roof fitted in a couple of weeks.

Do people who have them ever actually use them? Is it a waste of the extra £200? Is it just one more thing to go wrong? Any thoughts on issues with kids travelling in the van? More breakable? More zips for kids to fiddle with? (age 3, 7,8 so definitely fiddlers...). Apart from the issue of one of them pushing a sibling out of the roof of course.....

Or are they an absolute necessity if you are somewhere really hot? Middle of Spain in the middle of Summer.... would it make a difference to resale value perhaps?

Anyhow, these are the thoughts going through my head....Amy tips, advice would be appreciated!

I am going to be doing a few posts on a variety of newbie issues. ..this forum is fantastic!

All the best

Afraid i am no help on this but as a parent of three also that did make me laugh as thats exactly what mine would do

I have a skyline lwb and kids pushing each other out and using my windscreen as a slide Was the reason I didn’t opt for it. The fixed window at the front variant is big and lets plenty light in and additionally two sides windows drop down if you need air with fixed mesh.

Btw @Tjf don’t know where you getting it fitted but when I got mine I got the new memory foam mattress for up there in black not white fits perfect and is comfy

I have a scenic Hilo, and use it every time I put the roof up, which is nigh on every week. But then I have it for a specific reason. My kids sail, and parking the van up close to the water, pealing back the fabric and sitting up there with a brew and the binoculars is nothing short of idyllic.
My kids are 12 and 13 so not quite as young as yours and whilst they fight and bicker like any other sibling they’ve not pushed one another out of the roof (yet). I think they know that they'd have one hell of a long walk home if the used my windscreen as a slide!

We have it as we got it during an offer they were running, not sure it's a must have but allows excellent ventilation in hot weather and our daughter likes playing up there while spying on everyone around.

We have it fitted to ours. We both like cycling and do extend to take the van over the pond and watch the tour de France. We aim to camp over and then open the top to watch the cycling from an elevated view.
I don't have kids so the van slide isn't an issue. There are two zips so you could always put a small padlock on them?

Hi

Thanks for all those posts...really interesting! I had never thought of using the elevation to watch events.

Got my scenic canvas and polished hinges for free in the Hilo deal that they run once/ twice a year.

Thanks everyone....I love the van Spook...gorgeous bright colour. I did see Austops had started to do one but too late for us....I think this is another reason to have it done as it will probably become more common so could be good for resale.....not that planning on that for a long time!
