Saggy seatbelt

Hi All,

I’ve been meaning to ask this for a while but ever since carpet lining my van, the rear seatbelt on the passenger side doesn’t recoil (not sure if that’s the right word but it doesn’t go back in!) because there’s not enough clearance now the carpet is there, it gets pinched and so I have to feed it back in, has anyone else had this?

Not sure I’ve explained that well enough but can take a pic if needed? The simplest thing I can think of is to add a small washer to increase the clearest but not sure if that would comprise the integrity if the seatbelt at all?

Also I ordered my ‘premium’ carpet from Shore vans, but just where the kids are sat in the back brushing their legs against it (hardly putting it under a lot of strain), it’s really fluffed up and looks crap! Is that normal? Or do I just have poor quality carpet stuck all over my van? 😩

Thanks for any help!

My guess would be glue overspray and fluff has got dragged by the belts onto the seatbelt reel. Removal and a good clean should sort it.

A picture would probably help. From your description it sounds like there isn’t much room between the seatbelt and the side of the van, with thick carpet, and it’s catching? Obviously that’s just my interpretation, others will read it differently.

The middle seat belt in the front cab of our van - double passenger seat, doesn’t retract unless I help it but there is nothing catching so mine seems a different problem. It catches on the safety ratchet if tugged and has therefore passed the MOT but still makes me wonder. That seat is used by the dog so I want it safe! I might just bite the bullet and fit a new one.
(On a side note the same dog made me fit a new belt to the Golf - chewed through it in about 3 seconds flat as she didn’t like sitting in the back by herself).
