Roof bars

Im looking for roof bars for my van
The roof rails that have been fitted have not been fitted in the usual place right at the edge of the roof but in a but further onto the roof
Is this normal?
Are there any roof bars available for these narrower fitted rails1000016362.webp

I'm guessing that whoever fitted them didn't have the plastic shims that go underneath the rails in the gutters.
My concern would be are they sturdy enough in that location since there isn't a lot of metal thickness in the roof panel sheet over the gutter locations which have captive nuts in what is pretty much the strongest part of the roof.

Aye get what you mean
I think if I put roofbars on the edge they are supposed to be i would have to take these off?

Or use stainless nuts , bolts and tap washers to fill the existing holes maybe ?
Check the rear bolts are accessible also and that rear spoiler isn't in the way of them .

Ok never thought of the spoiler
This van is turning out to be more hassle than anything 😬

If you’re not wanting to carry much weight then you can still fit the standard VW (Omtec) bars and just cut them down to the correct width.
They are an extruded aluminium profile that is consistent across the full length, with a plastic end cap.
I have that style of roof rail on my pop top and bought the Omtec and cut them down to fit the narrower gap. No problem with a good hacksaw.

Although at some point I would like to get a tent box so will need to look at getting g different ones
