Rock n Roll bed handle

The handle/lever to put the bed down in my van is pretty thin and a bit sharp. Whacked my shins & calfs off it a few time and not too keen to have dog in back in case he catches himself on it or worse in an emergency stop/crash. At the moment I've got some pipe lagging on it (soon to be wrapped in Duct tape.

1. Can you replace the handle/lever?
2. What are others folks doing?

Mould a knob for the lever in Polymorph. I suggest drilling holes through the end of the lever to give better grip.

Good idea, might even be able to remove from bed structure and fashion up a better solution e.g. folding?
