So I keep reading great things about these but what's the best size to get?

I'm guessing the compact is large enough for a standard slice of bread. Can't see what the XL gives you?

I bought the compact and had to return as it was too small

Best piece of kit I bought last year for my van got the XL
eggs bacon sausages you name it comes out superb and cos it seals with magnets you can turn it over while cooking

I did wonder about these, didn't know that about the magnets and was thinking "how does it stay together for turning"..

Just been looking again to buy the XL do you need a case, they seem pretty expensive (£23)

Fishing tackle shops are your best bet, these things are massively common to the overnight angler. Try anglingdirect.com
And definitely get the XL, the standard one is way too small.

I have the compact. More than enough for me and can do 2 butties consecutively.
Or a shed load of bacon, and an egg or two. Also easier to store in the cupboards in the van.
Use it at home sometimes too.

Got mine in an angling shop, in the middle of nowhere!

I guess there will always be differences of opinion.... The beauty of open discussion...:D it all helps to make an informed decision.
I have put a standard size ridgemonkey on my Christmas list. I chose the std because I've seen the stickers on the dual hob that show a limited pan size. I will be using my cooker in the van. So can I ask those that say the standard size is too small why they think that? What are you using it on? The hob in the van or something else? Is the standard size good for a whole toastie? It will only ever be for one or two people so I don't need to feed a family.... Is this why some think it's not enough?

I presume you mean concurrently, rather than consecutively (?)
