RIB Scopema V3 swivel base - Rattle

I should say, the photo has some strange optical illusion going on, it looks like there's a gap between the o-ring were spindles meet. There isn't.

@MrG , I think your probably right! I'm currently wishing i purchased from kiravans as they have a 90day return policy!

However, have you managed to agree anything with clear cut, or have you just taken the hit?
I only investigated it this evening, was going to carpet the seat safe/base but I found the swivel that I didn't actually order is the item that's rattling so came up with a little solution as an interim and I'm going to give them a call next week as the experience I had when I placed this particular order was nothing short of laughable.
However props to clear cut, they did bend over backwards to come up with a solution quickly. Unfortunately that solution was to send me the rib swivel. Looking at the clear cut lowered seat base with integrated swivel there is no chance on earth that would rattle. The issue I had was they didn't package the items particularly well and I had three delivered that were all damaged, when I did receive one that wasn't damaged it was just the seat base with no swivel.

I was advised way back to spray some white grease on the bobbins which I did. Have continued to do this every so often and haven't had any of the issues with rattles etc. Maybe worth a try?

After spending the weekend looking at this swivel base, I still can’t determine the source of the rattle or movement. No idea why it’s only just started happening.

Clearcut Campers have offered to collect the base and run some tests – which I’ll probably take them up on – but it does mean being without the swivel for about a week. :(

That said, I’ve come up with an idea, and early testing looks promising. The thinking is: if I can support all four corners of the seat, whatever’s causing the rattle should either stop or be reduced.

So, I’ve 3D printed caps for the seat base bolts. When the seat is closed, these caps take up the slack (without putting pressure on or wedging against the bolts). It took a bit of trial and error to make sure nothing fouls the mechanism as it spins. They’re just bolt caps – no glue or modification needed.

Testing so far has just been wobbling the seat (no road test yet), but it already feels tighter than the driver’s seat – which I previously thought was fine! I’ll probably make a version for the driver’s side too.

The prototypes were printed in PETG (done quite quickly, so not the best quality), which is tough enough for testing. I’ve ordered some nylon, which is much stronger and self-lubricating, and I’ll finish the final ones with some wet/dry paper to get them as smooth as possible.

Any thoughts, suggestions, or concerns? I might’ve missed something!

(You never really notice how dirty parts of your van are, until you have taken macro photos of it! 🤣)

interesting idea, do you think you will need one on the top and bottom spindles?

Having now covered about 1500 miles with the O-Rings in place, i can now confirm the rattle is gone! :mexican wave::cool:

@MrG Nice. What size o-rings did you use.

Clear cut agreed to take mine back for testing and then agreed it was faulty

Before that. My 3d printed bolt caps worked extremely well. Also makes the seat feel rock solid no movement at all when locked forward facing.

I've got a new one but not fitted yet. The new one has black bushes my first had white. What colour are yours?

Anybody, Any ideas if the black ones are from an earlier or later revision?

I’m watching this thread with interest as a V3 owner. I have only installed the passenger one so far and it doesn’t currently rattle. I just checked the one I haven’t installed yet and it has black bushes.

Sad to report that I’ve just driven the van and noticed the passenger side rattling, I’ve probably done less 1k since installing it. I’ll give the o-ring idea a shot!

AHH, so no difference between the black and white versions other than cosmetic by the sounds of it 😔 :-(

Unfortunately, the 14-day return window under the Consumer Contracts Regulations has just passed, so the automatic right to cancel and return no longer applies.

Even within that period, once a product has been installed or used, it gets more complicated. The seller can argue that the item is no longer in a resellable condition and may refuse the return
Hey there! Glad you fixed it.

Just before I go into this I am a managing director of several ecommerce stores.

What you’re saying is right. However if anything like this happens again you do have rights for a repair, (if cannot repair) a replacement ir refund.

Consumer Rights Act 2015Applies to all sales, including in-store.
You have the right to goods that are:
  • 1 As described
  • 2 Of satisfactory quality
  • 3 Fit for purpose
This is generallyfor 6 months, but you can definitely take this further, for example if you buy a TV, 6 months is not a realistic life of TV therefore you could argue you have been sold a product .
