The engineer who needs to sign off my van said that you can't drill vertically up or down through the chassis members only horizontally. So this would fail an inspection in Ireland according to him

I'm currently trying to get a Kiravans kit fitted which looks very similar to yours. Both kits are bolted horizontally through the chassis rails. The engineer signing off on my vehicle doesn't have a problem with that its only if the chassis has been vertically drilled - don't ask me why - must be something to do with the way the chassis is loaded in a crash

Yeah, the bolts to attach that fitting are fixed horizontally.
