RIB Altair seat too high

Im after some advice on the floor. I have a RIB Altair 120 bed which I've positioned in the van to get an idea of space etc its currently sat on some old 9mm floor with 2 layers of insulation - Im about to buy a ply floor which id assumed 12mm is the normal thickness but have noticed the Chair is ridiculously high. Im 6ft my head touches ceiling and legs barely touch floor, poor design of what is a great quality bed/chair. Would it be ok to cut the ply so the chair is fixed directly to the floor? or for the sake of 12mm not worth the hassle. Id prefer to have this fitted and not do myself but have been unable to find anyone that doesn't require a wait of 12 months (Dorset)

We can help you, our waiting list is 11.9 months....;)

The RIB seats are high and weird shape. When we first started many moons ago I contacted RIB with similar questions regarding the shape for the seat, height etc. Essentially the shape is like that for regulations, certification and operation. The sat has to go above the wheel arch hence the height. The bum section is long so it kicks your legs out. Make sure you have a VW specific seat as it may be one for another van and is higher than VW.

I don’t think it’s worth the hassle setting into the floor for 12mm, extra head height.

Cheers,
Ian:thumbsup:

P.S we also do 1 piece ply floors CNC cut....

I “passed” on fitting a RIB due to the height. I felt like Humpty Dumpty sitting on it :think smile bounce::think smile bounce::think smile bounce:

I have been planning my van for while & had convinced myself that I wanted to rib glide bed. Looks great. So I tried one yesterday. I'm 6'2 & in all of the seats my head (with pop top down) was pressed against the roof / I couldn't sit properly. This is a problem as I have teenage sons who are nearly as tall as me & likely to be as tall v soon. This is really disappointing

So - my thoughts are - is a pop top roof lower than the normal roof? (As I'm not planning to have 1).

Or am I going to have to rethink my layout & not have a rib bed - as I can't fit adult sized passengers into the back

Depending on pop top it may be slightly higher where the bed section is. RIB beds are generally high and tall people can struggle. A Reimo 3000 track seat is lone of the lowest seats available. We fit both, call next week on 01935321564 if you want to chat

I had a 3 seat rib in our last van, they do sit quite high. Just on with converting another van and opted for a Titan Bed. They sit lower. I’m going for Stealth B2 pop top that sits lower inside the van so the rib wouldn’t really work.
Speak to Mark at Titan, good price fitted with your choice of upholstery he also did my front seats to match.

As previous post suggested , the Reimo is a great option but was out of my budget.

I'm liking your switch conversion. I'll be in touch. Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I'll look at titan. Ribs aren't cheap & Reimo seem even more! I need head height for 2 x 6ft+ kids to sit in the back without complaining
