Rear heater mod

Having read through as much info as I can find about the rear heater in some of the T6's (whilst constantly being spammed about parking heaters) I'm now under the impression that this works off the coolant system from the engine.
Has anyone done/ thought about modding it to run off the leisure battery with an electric heater?.... just to take the edge off the cold nights. Or maybe there's another option?

Correct.
modding it to run off the leisure battery with an electric heater?.
I'm afraid that's almost mission impossible - as stand-alone heater. The energy stored in any reasonable size battery is fairly small - anyways at maximum around 1 kWh (e.g for a 12V/100Ah battery)- which equals to approx. 0.1 litres of diesel. The mentioned parking heaters consume 0.3 - 0.6 litres diesel per hour for 2.5 - 5kW. Thus the battery would last only for a few minutes as a decent heat source.

I get the process but you won't be able to run it off a battery for any length of time to provide heating unless you had a mains connection.

Look at the Chinese diesel heaters instead

Hi all, thought I'd add to this thread rather than start I new one. I've ordered electronic ac and rear heater for my new van. As the rear heater is ran off the engine heater circuit I was wondering if I add a webasto thermotop heater to the circuit and use it to heat the van as a night heater and pre heat the engine / cab for early / cold starts? Any views on this?

From your avatar I see you‘re based in Bath, the engine won’t need pre-heating this far south.
