Random voltage 14.0v then 11.7v

I have a 12v switched socket plugged into my central cigarette socket. This has a voltage reading on it and today while driving on the motorway I noticed that one minute the voltage is14.0v then it drops to 11.7v for a while and then goes back to 14.0v

I should add it’s a 2022 T6.1 with no leisure battery to confuse things. Has anyone got any ideas please as this doesn’t seem right to me.

That’s the smart alternator doing its business. Normally the voltages will be in the range 12.3 to 14.9 ish so maybe your socket is under reading slightly or voltage drop in the cable.

Shows I know nothing, off to Google smart alternators now. Cheers.

At least I won’t panic now and think I am about to break down.
