Ok ladies and gents......anyone got any thoughts on whether or not protected NCD is worth the money? Many years ago, when insuring a car, the young lad on the other end of the phone told me (probably unwisely) that "it's not worth the money because, yes, they'll protect your NCD in the event of a claim, but they'll just raise the undiscounted price of the policy" so you will ultimately pay more. Just wondering because mine's up for renewal soon and it's something I'm thinking about......especially seeing as the windscreens seem to be made of rice paper......would having NO NCD have implications in the event of a windscreen claim? Hopefully PukkaT6 might have some words of wisdom here?

If you stick the @ simple in before writing a name (require first 3 letters minimum) this creates a link and a notification to the profile in question. @PukkaT6

Got my A-plan renewal quote through yesterday. They list my windscreen repair as a claim on the history!!!! Might be shopping around.

Hmmmm.......I'm with A-plan. I remember the days when a windscreen repair was barely worthy of a mention!

Ok so I personally have NCD protection on the following grounds. If you have a claim thats fault the following year you will have an increased premium, the NCD will give you a percentage saving on said premium. Without it you simply pay more for your policy due to having no NCD AND a claim.

In regards to Windscreen claims most reputable insurers do not class this in the same vein as a Road Traffic Accident claim hence difference in excesses. We (Pukka) do not add windscreen claims to any database and I imagine that this is standard amongst insurers but what they can do is on renewal look at their claim history on their files and if they chose, inflate the cost.

Thanks for that PukkaT6....worth knowing! I'll definitely be having a good shop around. Might be a silly question.....but can I take it you quote on commercials?

We only sell commercial van insurance upto 3.5 tonne at the moment however its only through brokers, by the end of the year I hope to be in a position to offer something on here.
