Problems with Teahupoo?

There is some ‘light reading’ on trading after a company has been dissolved here: Link

Doesn’t seem right to me that they keep trading and appears to be a safety issue based on what’s been posted above?

I’m paying to get the whole pop top roof replaced in a couple of weeks. This thing leaks, creaks, there’s an issue with the struts and it’s actually damaged in two places - which was conveniently hidden by the rubber sealing strips
Very frustrating, but new pop top is definitely the better option

Found another example of the quality of work…

This is where the gas pipe leaves the metal enclosure for the gas bottle. Note the chafe marks on the softer copper pipe caused by the harder steel surface of the enclosure. No grommets to protect the pipe, no attempt to file the rough edges on the drilled hole

Hi, we’ve got same issue with teahupoo conversion, my partner bought the van 6 years ago before we’ve met. Struts and hinges poorly installed, roof creaks and recently started to rattle badly and looks like wood is rotting after water sipping through roof rails 🙁 so canvas and roof will need replacing. The whole van it’s poorly insulated too. Any luck with your roof/canvas replacement? Recommendations? Cost? Thank you

Hello TomH , welcome to the T6 Forum. What an awful situation. Very sorry to read all of these accounts, I hope that the warmth and supporting nature of the forum gives some lift to spirits.
Hi, thank you. it’s a fantastic forum so glad I’ve joint🙂. We’ll be looking to upgrade to newer T6 soon, ideally LWB, wider bed, air con, euro 6 etc. so it’s nice to get and share advice with like-minded folks 👍

Sorry to see you’ve also had problems with Teahupoo - reading this forum you’re not alone!

I was so sick of issues with the roof I got it replaced with a Skyline instead. Cost was around £3.5k and that included sorting the holes on the roof where the locking cams went for the Teahupoo roof & respraying after the repair.

Work was done by Wirral Custom Campers in Neston, Wirral

Good luck getting yours sorted!

I’m another person who took the Teahupoo bait. They coverted a T5 for us around 2017. After 8 years sympathetic use we have seen:
  • The electrical issues others have reported - the weedy relay split charger and PMS (?) management unit. The leisure battery died in the first year and I replaced the whole setup with a proper system.
  • Failed rear hinges on the bed board - the whole thing came adrift when being opened.
  • Many cupboard door hinges working loose and pulling out (MDF used throughout - ugh!)
  • Trim panel screws working loose
  • Leaky side windows
  • Very wobbly head rest on driver’s seat (was recovered during conversion)
  • Badly cracking vinyl on the seats
  • Body corrosion where awning rail was fitted & screws used to fit the rail rusted to failure
  • Loose water tank
  • Failed tap unit
  • Unsightly surface corrosion on the alloys they fitted
  • Failed zip on the pop top canvas front window.
and the latest issue - cracking / splitting of the fibreglass pop top along the lines of the internal metal sections.

I accept some wear and tear, of course, but all in all a poor quality, shoddy job, using cheap fixtures and fittings, that sadly caught us out.

We want to replace the pop top. I see the above recommendation for Wirral Camper Centre for replacing the pop-top. Can anyone recommend other good companies who can replace pop tops?

See you are only from clitheroe, try elevating roofs on Accrington. I’ve not used them but know plenty have. Bob and Jim have been doing it donkeys years.
