Power steering pump drain plug leak

Every few months I have to top up the steering fluid reservoir. Only about an egg cup full needed. When I look underneath. The only sign of fluid leak is a drip on the drain plug.
My question is, does this drain plug need a gasket. It seems tight, but I thought maybe it needs a gasket. It’s never been removed since when was new. I wipe all the fluid away. A few kilometres later the only place showing any fluid is a new drip on the drain plug.
The van is 86 2018, manual.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

can we add a power steering section to the downloads?

I’m fairly sure that is the cap for the spring loaded spool valve and will have an o ring seal.
If you remove the cap be prepared for some small components to follow, probably best done with the pump removed.

Thanks heaps. I would have been in a tight spot if I had removed it. I guess the seal is the problem. I’ll leave it to the experts.

Keep us posted with any findings
