Hi

I am looking at options to power a kettle and baby bottle steriliser whilst I'm away on long weekends in my caravelle t6....can anyone suggest any ideas that may work.

I was looking at installing a power inverter but have read mixed reviews as to how good they are?

Thanks

I have a power inverter on my leisure battery which runs a double socket. It works fine to charge mobile phones and run other electronic babysitter devices from the backseat, and also ran some inspection lights perfectly well in my awning. However the wife tried to boil a kettle the other week with it, and it couldn't do it, I'm guessing it was simply the current draw involved. The other side of my leisure power setup gets over that problem, which is a 240V hook-up, however, that clearly means that you need to be able to hook up to a supply to do it.
Other option is a little gas stove type thing that'll boil a kettle (only don't use a plastic electrical one on top of it, it gets messy). Equally that will boil a pan of water that you could use a bottle steriliser?

I have an electric kettle in my van that we use on day trips sometimes, i have a second battery under my passenger seat feeding a 1000W invertor under my drivers seat this then feeds a couple 240V socket outlets
I use a low wattage travel kettle and it works fine although it only holds enough for 3 cups (maybe 4 if you dont overfill the cups) and takes a little while to boil, this is only for occasional use for us as gas would be the preferred method if using regularly

Gas is definitely better for high energy applications. You get way more energy in a bottle of gas than you do in a battery!

Look in camper van section of forum for a thread cooking, backup solutions.. There are some good bits of kit listed..

@Pjbmell77 mell77 this is just a thought, but when our two boys were of that age we used a Milton bottle sterilizing kit. The kit comprises a bottle bath with removable cover that took two bottles and treats and used Milton sterilizing solution that was added to the bath of water. Don't know if the stuff is still available but it was ideal for camping or guesthouses etc as well as at home. Good alternative to hot sterilizing in those days.

EDITED. Milton kit available on Amazon at £12.90.
