Don’t go to Polperro!
We arrived to visit what we were told was a pretty fishing village and expected to pay maybe £3 for an hour.
The only car park is a huge privately owned car park and we drove on finding it fairly busy. To my horror we saw MINIMUM CHARGE £7 for up to three hours. MOTORHOMES TO PARK FAR END OF CAR PARK too.
We parked up and I chatted to other car drivers parking up who were equally horrified. A couple didn’t stop and decided to leave as they felt it was a rip off. As I approached the machine it was clear cars were £7 BUT Motorhomes and vans were in fact £12. We only planned to stop for an hour !!! I noticed a T5 had paid £12 close to us. Sorry but it’s daylight robbery. I wasn’t going to do so.
Got back in the van and drove off.
I feel sorry for the traders in the town. It must drive visitors away.
Made our way to Fowey where we parked for 3 hours for £3.20. That’s about what I expect to pay.
KEEP AWAY FROM POLPERRO UNTIL THEY DROP THIS RIDICULOUS FEE ON CARS AND MORE ON MOTORHOME OWNERS.

Were you driving a motorhome?

A tenner to park, how long did you get? We’re Scotland bound on Wednesday and that was an option for a visit whilst we’re so far up.
It's a lovely walk, I don't think it was a timed thing, we were there for over 3 hours. Get there early I would suggest, but bear in mind we were there mid school holidays, should be fine now the little darlings are back to school. Well worth the trip, even our 17 year old 'baby' enjoyed it!

If you hadn't have asked, it would have beenn an interesting one to challenge. A Transporter does not confirm to the definition of a motorhome IMO, especially if it's classified as an LCV on the V5.

Privately owned car parks are great specially when there is no exit barrier to stop you as then you choose how you behave - i would have paid the regular fee then easily dealt with any ticket I received from the cowboy ex clamping car park management company.

chap who owns the carpark is a multi millionare, the last time (and only time) i was there a couple of years ago it was cash only too

i have been there twice in the last two years knowing the misses she probably paid for car not van, i just parked anywhere that gives you plenty of room to get out, found parking spaces are close together so if you get a numpty parking close to you it can be a wiggle to get out of space, I'm getting on a bit 55  waiting for two new knees so the walk down to the town wasn't fun when you have a 90lb Choc Lab pulling you all over the shop :fast rofl:, and don't get me started on the prices it seams £6 for for everything tea, ice cream, pasties all good mind rant over, nice little fishing village, did my good deed for the day handed off my ticket to another transporter driver on way out still had 90mins left on it and didn't see any signs saying ticket not transferable;)

It seems to be the norm now expensive parking at nice places
Studland bay NT car parks £8 4 hrs all day £12
North Norfolk Council run £1.80 per hour not bad for short stay do the maths for 8 hours
Brancaster in Norfolk £5 2 hours £11 all day
Kent coast £1.80 PH
£1.80 pH seems cheap but not if you make a day of it
We're national trust members so you get free parking in their car parks the only reason we joined Park up in NT car park and enjoy a day of walking

I generally don’t go to places where I have to pay to park. If people keep visiting and paying then they’ll keep charging.
On our Spain/Porrugal trip this year we paid to park twice in 10 weeks. And that wasn’t being tight, I parked in town centres and close to where we wanted to be, it’s just that parking was generally free everywhere we went. I spent a while looking round car parks for the pay and display machines and looking in car windscreens before realising that it’s free.
We are conditioned in the UK to paying for everything, with people brainwashed into believing that if you don’t want to pay that you’re a freeloader and are taking money from their local authority which seems to somehow impact on them as an individual.
£60 ferry to France. I’d rather go where I’m wanted and can relax.

Unfortunately these places are so busy now that they don’t actually want (or rather can’t accommodate) all the visitors so they can charge what they want.

We went to Polperro a couple of times the other week in the Transporter. Minimum 3hrs, coins only, £7.
Clean swimming water and pretty decent food in The Three Pilchards.

Mine says MPV on the V5 - as will a lot of Cali Beaches. So not a van at all in the DVLA definition. I keep a copy of that bit of the V5 in the dash in case I want to get bolshie.

I don't mind paying but I do mind inconsistencies. I'm not bigger in the car park than a Range Rover and in every legal definition I'm not a Motorcaravan. Likewise I'm not driving some great big coach built Fiat conversion that needs the extra space.

I've stopped using the M6 Toll for similar reasons - was happy to pay the car fee for the time saving and nice services but I'm not paying £17 odd

We have been going to Looe for years and always played the “Magic Roundabout” game in the town centre car park. SWMBO always wanted to visit Polperro so we did…..my eyes watered at the parking charges! Nothing can be done, it’s private land and the owner charges what he likes. I paid for a car and was content to have a barney if he wanted more!!!

Pretty little fishing village with a scenic drive into it. Nothing to see or do there though, other than empty your wallet for overpriced tat. Easier to park in Looe and take the bus in though. I’m told that arriving by boat is even better to see the village in all its beauty, but that is quite pricey.
