We thought we would visit Oxwich Bay today. On arrival there is only one Car Park. The charge for a VW camper/Transporter ……..
£15.00 !!!!! Bloody ridiculous, we are not talking camping, just parking.
So if you don’t want to be ripped off, do as we did and go elsewhere.

There seems to be a strong anti-car sentiment being forcefully expressed by Welsh authorities currently. I for one won't be going near the principality whilst Operation F*ck-Wit (the 20 mph policy) is in place. That's not just cheap talk - I've cancelled a planned (and paid for) trip to Rhiw as a direct result of that nonsense.

Try taking a boat to Wales, I’m not talking about a gin palace, just a fishing dinghy. They want £30 just to register it with the local council. You have to pay launching on top. Each council has its own scheme, so if you move around, you have to pay £30 to each council. This is local to each council & not nationally recognised. Our boat is on the Internationally recognised Small Ships Registry which is run by HM Gov, but does it count with welsh councils? Does it feck!! Hence we avoid the place.

Black rock sands is the same, parking is £6 for any car or pickup etc but £12 for a van?! Work that one out

Can you get away with paying as a car? We’re within the definition by size for most ferry companies.

They we very clear about the £15. Even had a little graphic of a camper. Cars were £7 btw, which is still too high for a beach car park with little or no facilities.

One thing we've loved about touring around Norfolk and Suffolk, sensible parking charges. Have parked in the main high streets a few times ranging from 1 hour to 2 hours completely free. Even parked right on the front at Southwold which was free all day. When on paying car parks its been around £1.10 to £1.60 for two hours which is usally more than enough for us but as most where the ring-go parking app is was very quick and simple to extend the stay without having to return to the van. Wales have been anti van since lockdown so we won't be visiting any time soon.

I still wonder how they could enforce the difference. Not based on length or height, there are ‘cars’ with comparable dimensions.

I think it's owned and run by the local private estate so, to some extent, thier land thier rules.

It's not a popular change though:

We went to Penmon Point in Wales last year & they wanted to charge us the van rate. We said it’s a CARavelle & they said ok!
I'm intending to have the relevant section of V5 copied and laminated to keep in the glove box (it's a 6.1 comfort dash so of course that will fill the glove box...) for use with jobsworths.

I appreciate that it's still unfair on other folks but when it's legally an MPV and smaller than some other MPVs and used as a daily drive like any other MPVs... being treated as "well you look like a camper so we're going to anyway" is frustrating. I wonder if owners of the Merc V Class have the same issues or don't because the Marco Polo is much less well known...?

A couple of weeks ago we went for a scenic drive to Harlech beach, 2 hours parking within a 5 minute walk of the beach was £1.10 for cars or vans / minibuses.
Surprisingly reasonable.
I wanted to go before all the 30mph limits become 20.
It's a shame for the Welsh people who rely on tourism, which is down by a third since 2019.
While most commuters and business people have to put up with anti-motorist policies, tourists just chose a different destination and spend their money somewhere else.
