Permanent air ventilation - campsite requirement

Interested to see what others have in the way of "built-in, uninterrupted, all-weather ventilation (opening windows or doors does not qualify). " as required by new forest and forest of dean campsites? Seems like a strict requirement to me, although I appreciate the reasoning behind it, remembering the couple who died in their van last year in the new forest.

Ok, essentially they seem to have very recently added much stricter requirements for campervans to stay at the new forest sites, where I am booked to stay tomorrow. Currently trying to get in touch to discuss with the campsite, but I don't often see permanent ventilation being discussed here, other than drop vents for gas cabinets (which I don't have)

What's the background? What issue are they trying to address?

The general spiel suggests it's to ensure only vans converted to a high standard of safety are staying there. I think it's a reaction to the couple who were found dead in their van after using a parabolic gas heater with insufficient ventilation.

"These requirements ensure safety, comfort and compliance for all guests. Simply reclining your seats and sleeping in a car won’t meet them – it’s uncomfortable for you and not suitable for our site."

So they're requiring such ventilation even for vans where no such appliances are used? Sounds like an idiot's approach to rule-making - "some are stupid, so treat everyone as stupid". Whatever happened to Darwinism?

Indeed, that seems to be the approach. I'd be less annoyed if they had a big banner on their booking form telling you to check if your van is compatible, but there's no indication. Instead you need to read 14 pages of t&c's. Apparently the are turning people away with no refunds, or telling people to bring a tent to sleep in. Will see what they say tomorrow...
