Passenger door not opening from inside or outside - Help!

Hi all,

I've had the passenger door card off my T6 today, all seemed to go back together fine but on closing the door I can no longer open it from the inside or outside. Inside handle doesn't feel like there's much resistance.

1. Central locking seems to be working, pin goes down and back up and I cant pull it any further up it sounds as though it's unlocking the door

2. I've removed the external handle and pulling on the cable from outside doesn't work

I've read some other threads that reckon that if the inside handle is pulling any tension on the cable, the outer handle wont work, there's a good chance the cable isn't connected or the actuator mechanism is jammed somehow.

Obviously with the door shut, I cant get access to remove the door card (the two 90 degree plastic clips at the bottom are not accessible) so kind of knackered until I get access.

edit - I've just found another thread showing removal of the door card so I'll give that a go and see what has gone wrong

I've scanned the van and interestingly I had:

03302 Return Message Regarding Passenger Door Closing Condition - Implausible Signal (cleared and hasn't come back)
03303 Return Message for Left Rear Door Closing Condition - Implausible Signal (cleared and hasn't come back)

Side door often needs a double click on the remote to unlock it and I noticed, drivers, passenger and rear locks double clunk when locked/unlocked, I'm assuming that's not the deadlocks as in general only 1 click of the remote is needed to open any of them?

That's just for info for now, immediate issue is how to open the damn door!

Thanks, I saw that vid but with the external cable disconnected, the inside handle is still not working so I'm assuming it's jammed or stopping something in the mechanism from unlocking

There is an option for pressing the unlock once to just unlock drivers door, and twice to unlock all doors.
The faults you cleared may have just been activated when you had the door apart, so probably a red herring

Yeh, I assumed it was an unlock all doors with 1 press thing but its only the side door that seems to need 2 presses

Think it was an option in Carista settings.
Double click to unlock all doors, single click for only drivers door.

Thats the weird thing, it doesnt always take two clicks so its not a setting

This morning, single click allowed me to open the side door, rear doors and passenger door - although trying it a few times it took two pulls of the side door handle to open it once.

So - Were in!

1. Passenger seat out
2. B Pillar trim off
3. Passenger side step out
4. Faff around with the two 10mm 1/4 turn fixtures underneath (and broke them anyway)
5. Bit of brute force and jiggling to get the door card out

I couldn't see what was happening with the cable but as soon as I released it from the inner handle, the door was able to be opened by pulling either cable so definitely something jammed stopping the mechanism from moving fully to reset

Need a couple of the 1/4 turn clips for the bottom and I can put it back together

Thanks for the suggestions

All going so well!

Reassembling the exterior handle, must have got the screw that holds the handle in too loose and this bit has dropped down.

Anyone describe where it goes back in please?

Cant see it on an exploded diagram either

edit - doesnt appear to have any effect on the door locking/unlocking or either handle working normally

Yeh definitely that eh.

Looked to be orientated/secured by the same grub screw that holds the lock cover in place and that looks to tie on with the picture you've shared at the bottom left side

Weird thing is everything is functional with it out!

Hi I'm experiencing exactly the same issue.

Door card off after removing pillar and step. Also removed the window.

I've disconnected the inside handle cable and looking down between the gap in the window i can see the mechanism moving when I operate the outside handle. It seems to go back to normal position when released.

Pulling on the internal handle cable I can hear the mechanism moving.

only issue is the door is still closed and appears no way to open it.

I've tried pushing and pulling on the door with an extra pair of hands while I try the cable. Nothing.

It feels like the mechanism is jammed or the lock is stiff against the striker pin.

For reference installed extra rubber trim (sounds like a golf ) on the door in the summer and did take more effort to close the door thereafter. I've a feeling that's causing pressure on the lock against the pin.

Suggestions very welcome, thank you!

Have you tried disconnecting the cable from the external handle then retrying the cable pulled from inside?
Potentially the external handle cable is pulling a tiny bit of tension on the mechanism and stopping from being operated from the internal one

Do you mean opening the outside door handle and pushing the lug back inside the door as far as it'll go? Other than that I can't see a way to disconnect the external cable.

I've spent all day trying today and given up. Took me forever to get those bottom nuts turned 90 degrees with limited working space!
