Bit of update, been running it all year, done a few shows, few camping weekends. Fitted victron charging for hook up and made our electrics. Have remote start in engine bay and with new head unit have a reverse camera to fit. One more weekend over the bank holiday with a few mates and then think its going up for sale as most European trips are done in main campervan.
A few weeks ago I took the deluxe to Hessich Oldendorf for the vintage VW show that's held every 4 years.
First stop after Le Shuttle was BBT nr Antwerp for a bbq and a few beers before the cruise into Germany the next morning.
Unfortunately when the cruise arrived at HO the campground as already full, despite having paid for camping.
Everywhere was fully booked, but we managed to find a nearby campsite for the Thursday night. (My mate Steve had already broken down in his 1970 bay a couple of miles from home, so jumped in his T6 for the trip.)
German campsites are amazing. Nice and clean, good facilities and decent restaurants on site.
We even had the football on for the Ecuador/Germany game. It was just the two of us, the German fans couldn't be bothered to watch the game.
After many phone calls we found another campsite near Hameln for the remainder of the trip, so set up camp there and then caught the train to HO.
It was my first trip to Hessich Oldendorf, and I was blown away by the amount of vintage VWs there.
If you like old VWs I would recommend the trip in 2030.
The deluxe performed faultlessly over the almost 1500 mile trip. Apart for the n/s quarterlight glass departing the chat on the E34 on the journey to Ghent before we headed for home, but luckily I managed to catch it.
