Hi,

Stupidly I managed to lose a piece of rubber tube from an oil pump (and small metal end piece) in the oil pan of my t6.1 yesterday when trying to remove some engine oil!

The dip stick goes in fine now which makes me think the tube (around 20cm in length) is sat in the oil pan.

My local garage says they think it should not cause a problem and to just remind them at next service time (in just under a year).

Should I be worried though? Any comments much appreciated.

Thanks, Mark

It depends what the tube is made from.

If its liable to degrade in the oil and heat and give off debris that could block oil ways then it's not a good idea to leave it.

I once dropped a tiny steel pin into the gearbox sump of a 110 Land-rover. Thought it would sit there happily forever. 10,000 miles later the gearbox exploded when the pin inexplicably moved.......

I think your garage has given you sound advice there. Sort it at next oil change.

You can use a magnet from the outside of the sump and try to pull it towards oil plug.
If the thing is floating it could be dangerous to oil pump belt that is in there.
