Off grid?

Im still in the process of working out how to go about my project Last time around I went full camper mode, and found rarely used hob, many of the cupboard space. So this time around I've decided on a different set up altogether this time around the gas will be gone and more reliant on electric.

Basic van is a SWB Kombi, I have it already lined up for insulation, sound deadening and carpet lining with van shades this time. I expect to go down the EHU route set up with lithium battery, charging and a Solar set up, however I keep thingking should I look into going for a more off grid set up, or stick with a decent solar panel and use a portable power station for off grid stays, any thoughst and advice greatfully appreciated.

Just get the biggest solar panel and battery you can afford and you're covered for both instances then
300ah battery, decent size solar panel and you'll be fine off grid for days unless you're running induction hobs and air fryers frequently (even then you'd be ok for a few days)

You really need to pin down your actual requirements which should then drive the spec. The phrase off-grid can mean many things because if you just mean a couple of days then you can just stick a big enough battery in whereas if you mean off-grid in any long-term sense it's less about the storage (battery) and more about the balance of charge vs discharge.

Thanks for your input guys: I get where you are both coming from, I'm not talking long stays "off grid", but enought to be sufficient for a few days at festivals, to that end I will probably go with a decent battery/solar/invertor set up. Should I need more I have a portable power station at my disposal.

If you want to stay off grid I’d take the load of the battery / solar by using a diesel hob / heater such as the Wallas XC Duo.
You can fill the van with batteries but there’s a very limited space for solar panels.
