Hi All.
Quick query. My set up is OEM LB to run fridge and downlighters. Fossibot 2400 W for mains bits (coffee machine charging phones etc). I’ve got solar to charge LB. On the odd occasion I may ????? need EHU when at a site (I like to go off grid normally) to charge up the Power Bank, what is the perceived wisdom for required length of cable. I’m going to make up a 16 A Plug to 13 A socket myself so I can plug in PB. I was thinking 5 mtrs would be ample. Please advise. 🙏 Thanks in advance.

I had a 25m cable which was far too long. I cut to make an 8m and 17m cable.
90% of time the 8m cable is fine.

5m isn't anywhere near long enough. I have a 25m and it's been a stretch on occasions. I'd say 15m minimum.

We have a 20m and a 10m cable, we needed both when we stayed at camping le foret in Lourdes.

Thanks both. I’ll plump for 15 mtrs then. The reason I ask as EHU sites are not my usual fare. (Normally a a lone camper in the middle of nowhere). But after a few test runs, ability to utilise EHU would be useful. As always this forum rocks. Thanks again and I’ll go to electrical wholesalers tomorrow. Another job ticked off. 🙏😎

Make sure you use at least 1.5mm2 cable. HO7RN-f is the best.

I’ve got a 10m & a 25m. Only had to use the longer one once but pretty much the full 10m has been needed a few times. I think you’d struggle with a 5m

Well in the interests of closing the loop and to thank you for advice….
When I was in Newey & Eyre yesterday picking up some materials for a job, got 17 mtrs of 3 x 1.5 mm csa Arctic Grade cable, IP Rated 1 gang socket, 16 Amp commando plug, and a rubberised heavy duty 13 amp plug and 2 gang socket. Made up a 1.5 mtr ‘patch lead’ from commando to socket and a15.5 mtr extension lead with the 13 Amp rubberised plug and socket. (IP rated socket has IP68 gland at cable entry, backed up with fibre washer and liquid PTFE on threads so zero chance of water ingress).
Now when at home I can use the extension lead to charge my Power Bank, and if/when on a site with EHU I can use the patch lead to tap off the 16 Amp supply. Run the 2 gang socket into the van via the window (it can sit under the wind deflector) and can plug in PB.
Current rating of my cable in ‘free air’ is 16 Amps (I looked at cable data sheet). My Fossibot PB charges from mains with a max load of 1100 W so 4.8 Amps draw, my ‘site essential’ Nespresso machine 😋 is 1260 W so 5.5 Amps. So 1.5 mm cable all good. 👍
Thanks again all. 😎😎 and might give someone ‘less electricity minded’ some useful info on a search??

If you’re going to France any time soon, don’t forget to get a 2-pin plug to commando outlet adapter
