Newbie - screw size

So my van is converted but I would like to make some modifications. I just wondered what size drill bit I need to use, length of screw etc.

I'm doing minor stuff but I'm just a bit nervous about putting the first screw in

Drill size for what size screw? for what component? drilling into what? self tapping or threaded?

so many variables that we need more details please.. also photos help...

To start with, just a simple set of hooks to hang some fairy lights for the mrs, so nice and simple to begin with.

Another job is to screw in a vesa mount for the tv, I'll check the screw sizes there

Depending where you want the fairy lights, rather than drilling holes in your nice new conversion for hooks, have you considered some velcro and/or stick on hooks (you can get some with 3m tape that can be peeled off if/when required)??
