Newbie here☺️

Ok
So I'm halfway there in terms of negotiations with buying this van. It's a 2017 T6 T28 in mint condition with only 26k miles on the clock with full history. The thing that's holding me back is the fact that it never had the timing belt and water pump changed!!! The owner serviced the van yesterday and put a fresh MOT on it as part of the sale. He was told the van is too low mileage for the belt to be changed. Should I be worried!? If I buy it and will change it asap.
But I'm just scared

Timing belt (and water pump) is a 4 year replacement regardless of mileage. Has the owner had the van since new? Could it have been done by a previous owner but no paperwork?

It’s a risk, but you could drive it home and get it done straight away. How far away is it from home?

Is it a private sale?

My T6 is 6 years old and has done 30k. I'm not worried about the timing belt as the mileage is so low - will probably get it done later this year.
If it worries you then get it changed as soon as you can.

Pete

It's an hour drive to my place
It's private sale and the owner bought brand new

Hi Pete
This van is also coming up to be 6 years old.
The van had an easy life and was just used for fair weather trips.

Everyone differs in opinion on this (search the forum lol) - rubber perishes with age though and if the van has done low miles it will have been sitting around a lot.

My van is 4 next month and has done 28k. I’ll be getting the belt and pump changed in the next couple of months. I have the mindset that preventative maintenance, just like insurance, is a necessary evil. The cost is a fraction of the of the overall price I paid for the van and is much less than a new engine top end if it snaps.

Likelihood is you’ll be fine to drive it home and then get the belt and pump changed but only you can decide.
