Newbie from the North East incoming...

Good morning all, I'm a brand new member and bought my first (personal) Transporter van yesterday. I've had previous Transporter vans (T4 and T5) for work a few years ago, but have taken the plunge and bought myself a T6.1 Highline 150ps 6sp in Indium Grey. Boggo panel van but with a plan to add some visual excitement and convert it to a day van with the mod cons expected. I'll no doubt ask some pretty daft questions along the way so bear with me, but will also make a point of trying to search first cos I don't want to end up being 'that guy!' Thanks for the inspiration and also for a few helpful topics which have been beneficial already. Traded a 5.0L V8 Lexus RCF in for the van, a car I'll always remember, but hopefully there'll be good memories to be made in the van too Was a 3 hour drive home after collection so I feel like I'm already well acquainted with it.

How it starts out:


Hopefully to come in the coming months will be the usual suspects such as wheels, suspension, splitter/spoiler, lights and windows. Conversion will hopefully begin int he New Year with a view to being ready for next spring to get out and about in it.

Well the first mods have been bought, (I genuinely blame Black Friday!) and got it a set of 20" rims but need tyres still. Any recommendations for 9jx20" rims?, I was thinking 255/40/R20s? I know 35 profile would be closer to stock but tough to find a load rated tyre in the smaller sidewall profile. Also jumped on Transporter HQ and grabbed some SoLow NSL coilovers, heavy duty rear rubber mounts and some extended droplinks. Expensive week! I can see what a bottomless pit I've gone and bought. Pics to follow in the next week or two once I get chance to mount them and get it set to a workable height etc. Thanks to you lot for the inspiration... I must stop looking at sexy Transporter vans!!!!

I had 255/40/20 on my previous 6.1. Think I had uniroyal tyres, load rated. Expensive week will turn into months and years all good fun though making some nice mods

Thanks man, yeah I hope it all pays off. I can't wait to just put my own stamp on it. How did you find the tyres? Did they over-read or under-read on speedo significantly?

If you use “will they fit” you can put wheel and tyre sizes in and it will tell you the difference in the readings for the speedo

So not much to report back with really, but a couple of purchases have been made so far:
Set of Wolfrace Dortmund 20" wheels and some 255/40/20 all season tyres, I use the van as a daily so need to be able to drive in the occasional snow and ice if needed. Fitted (minus one missing centre cap which reminds me that I need to check back with supplier for replacement!)
Some SoLow NSL coilovers which are hopefully going to be fitted by a TransporterHQ installer in the coming week or two (for the extended warranty)
A set of Climair Wind Deflectors which took all of 2 mins to fit.
I'm now waiting for the flush fit side windows to come back into stock at Camper Glass but they're out and have been for weeks now. I really want to get them in so it looks less like a standard panel van!

Once the coilovers are fitted and adjusted I'll update with some pictures. It's not a great look on 20s with stock ride height lol.

A terrible pic, grabbed as I left work but I love how the van sits now. Mick at Camper Monkey did me proud with set up and it rides really nicely. The back sits just a smidge higher but at my request as it will hopefully be about level once I start the conversion in the back. It's currently just an empty panel van. Next up will be the gloss black grilles etc. See how it looks before I decide on a splitter...
