New T28 Owner! What’s your top tips please?

Driving on roundabouts / junctions / low speed manoeuvring etc.

Easy to stall if you are not used to diesel vans, keep it in a lower gear than you would if you were in your (i.e. mine) petrol car.

Dash rubber.
Yes - the rubber strip to go between the dash and windscreen. No idea why VW just left a huge pen/parking ticket eating gap there.

Also a bit more soundproofing on the cab floor (others have added some to the scuttle and inner wheel arches too - all details are somewhere on the forum).

Not sure what servicing has been like but for me I like to change my cabin filter coming up to winter, buying a decent one with all the bells and whistles (or charcoal and anti-fungi layers). I’ve had a main dealer just flip it upside down and charge for a new one before - seems one bit of kit the garages really can’t be arsed about ordering and if they do it’s the cheapest one.

Check your tyre pressures and fluids levels, give it a wash and go enjoy! Plenty of time to find out what you want to blow your next wedge of cash on (suspension might be the first :grin bounce:).

And Regens.

Thanks! It has been converted already. Is a 28 not substantial enough?
Depends. My T28 is converted, fully laden and ready to go weighs a gnats under 2300kg. Thats fine for me, leaves half a tonne+ for two of us, but some conversions have been known to be far weightier so worth getting it on the weighbridge or bribing the boys down the local recycling centre to weigh it to be sure.

And to my tip...

A converted T28 will most likely be down at the rear. Eibach rear levelling springs cures this and is an easy DIY job if you have the tools. Some people have budget success using T32 springs, but for a few it doesnt work - T32 springs come in difrerent flavours and it all depends on the colour coding (theres a thread on here decyphering the codes.) It's worth doing, restores the steering geometry and tightens up the wayward rear making it a lot more positive feeling on the open road.

Enjoy!

Thanks! Where do you get yours weighed? We’re 2 adults and 2 little girls who’ll be using it so I’m hoping the weight won’t cause issues!

I went to the local recycling centre (AKA, the tip) and the guy was happy to oblige and I slipped him a tenner for his roll up and lager fund. They have the kit to weight vehicles as they weigh them before and after to calculate scrap values that the drivers bring in.

Make sure you've a full tank of fuel and water (if you have a water tank) so you get a worst case ready-to-roll figure.

That’s great advice, thank you

I think your local council website should list public weigh-bridges in the area. Mine did.
My nearest was at a sand and gravel yard, charged me a fiver.
Mine is a t28 also (although t5.1 so not troubled by adblue) and as a fully converted camper with all fluids brimmed weighed 2260kg.
Standard springs all round and no sagging.
