Motorcycle in a Kombi

I know there are threads about putting bikes in our vans but how have people found loading using the space left after removing the single rear seat only (ie leaving the twin seat in position - mine is a 2+1)?

I get it’ll depend on bike size to an extent, but I’ve got a bike bug back after a couple of years away and what I get is a little undecided as yet. Could be a 1200 Monster, BMW S1000R or XR, Multistrada, Triumph speed triple etc to give an idea.

Yeah it can be done, just depends on the bike really. Smaller bikes will go in without too much hassle, but anything bigger and it starts getting a bit tight pretty quickly.

Honestly the hardest part isn’t the space, it’s getting it in and out. You’ll definitely want a decent ramp and some solid tie-downs — last thing you want is it moving around in the back.

Also worth thinking about the smell of fuel if it’s inside the van, especially on longer trips… can get a bit grim.

Personally I think it’s doable, loads of people do it, but if it’s a bigger bike I’d probably lean towards a rack or small trailer just to keep things simple 👍

Thanks. I used to transport my bikes to track days/race weekends using a T5 van over the years, but never used a Kombi, hence the question. I've got all the kit needed to tie down including both front and rear wheel/tyre clamp set ups as well as a decent ramp. I've a friend that spends 6 months of the year at his place in Southern France and wanted the option of taking my (to be purchased!) bike to go for rides with him when I visit. Easier just removing the single seat but not the end of the world to remove both lots.
