Mobile Valeting - Anyone do it/Done it?

Think I would have minimum £2M public liability insurance these days.
£1M can be eaten up very quickly with some claims.

A few years ago a farmer who I knew was moaning about the faded red paint on a "modern classic" tractor that he owned;

I told him that I could improve it significantly, so I gave it a good wash then a machine polish;

I gave the cab a good clean too, inside and out. (had to shovel out the worst of the mud, first!)
He gave my number to a few friends and my phone never stopped ringing, I did quite a few tractors for local farmers and whilst I was doing one at a farm the main MF dealer sales rep turned up and asked me if I'd do a few for them each week to help them to sell "trade in" stock.
I had to decline as I was too busy with various other jobs and I didn't want to get into the realms of insurance, etc.
I couldn't believe how much demand there was, without me trying, after doing a tractor they'd often ask me to do a farm truck / 4x4.
I also found that they didn't demand perfection, just an improvement, and the dirtiest, dullest tractors and trucks were actually the best to do because anything I did was an improvement.

There's literally hundreds of tractors near me so that would be good to get into

I'd love to get into this too. Can't see many Yorkshire folk willing to pay me to detail their vehicles though. 'The rain'll wash it thanks' will be the general response to my offers I'd have thought hehe

Hypothetically, how much would you be looking to charge? :whistle:

Slightly off topic but have you thought about training to become a driving instructor Chris?
They are screaming out for them.
Trying to get one around here is a nightmare as they are booked out solid for half the year.
Decent money for sitting on your arse too and you pick your own hours.

I'd say go for it, especially if it's something you're passionate about and enjoy doing.

The company I've been with for the last 30 years is due to wind up in the next few years, and this is something that I've looked into when D day finally comes.

I want my next job to be something I actually enjoy doing, and not where I can play God with people's lives.

As the old saying goes, a faint heart never f****d a fair maiden.

Good luck with your endeavours.

I’d love to pay for someone to wash my Bus every week cause I’m so busy I just don’t get the time. They could was my daughters Polo and wife’s Evoque at least Fortnightly.

I'm very much like this... especially when "its a van"! But recently took my Audi to a local detailer (Car Detailing & Valeting in Barnsley | Wax N Vax) and was shocked at how clean he got it. Going back in spring for a proper machine polish, he's a fantastic bloke and extremely passionate, so much so that he cleaned more than what I paid for!

So although I'm very much "its just washing a car FFS...", I've been stunned by the results of a true professional. And last time I washed a car properly myself it took the best part of 4 hours.

So @T6ChrisO, I'd say 100% go for it! Get that client base built up and most importantly (as much as it pains me to say it), get plenty of Google reviews, they help massively. My wife does a bit of floristry self employed (we pay £12.50/mnth insurance through AXA) and as soon as she got a few google reviews, her business leapt up quite quickly, albeit its now cooled.

But maybe an old T5 eh...?!

Yeah thats the plan for sure as I also check Google reviews if I need any jobs doing so see the importance of it

Possably an aditional 'do you want fries with that' service you could offer in addition to valeting could be paintless dent removal depening on your keeness to learn something new? the kit seems to be reasonably priced and the cost could likely be recouped after a few uses.

Thoughts are you could do a valet, notice a carpark dink and offer to remove for an extra ££?

I always end up calling it dentless paint removal………it’s a shame that insurance companies don’t use this service as much as they could.

Another service... Option... underbody anti corrosion applier technician... Would have paid someone handsomely to have sprayed my lanoguard on.... Or bilthammer etc. know of a few people on here as well that would have done...
