Is it just my local Marks and Expensive BP station that seemingly gives me no fuel for the first few seconds of filling up? The money counter is counting but no fuel seems to flow for the first few seconds. Am I being overly skeptical? Is this a 'thing'? Am I indeed of Yorkshire heritage?!

yes, i get this too at Cambridge and Newmarket.....Racks up ~ 20p before any fuel comes out of pipe. Perhaps contact Weights and Measures?

So the great West Midland BP check up.
It adds up. It still feels there's nothing coming out for the first few seconds, but I suppose there must be...

the 20p worth of fuel you dont get is what the govenment are doing so they can afford to reinstate the winter fuel allowance for the OAPs they were going to increase fuel tax by 20p but they did a U turn and decided just to give you 20p less fuel personally i think this is a good idea

I've heard they're going to give each pensioner a bottle with 20p petrol to keep warm.

I’ve come across this several times. I always wait until the pump is fully running before I pull the trigger. If it starts at anything above zero I move to another pump and report the issue when I’m paying. Typical response is none committal. ie they don’t rush out and switch the pump off.
Of course they don’t make billions from fuel sales - it must be the Ginsters pies making all the profits!
