If so is the finish close to the original VW grill in terms of texture/colour?

Yes it is. I think the description stated the first two pics the grill is painted gloss black.

I see you colour coded all the front end of yours.
It looks good and is pretty much the route I'm thinking of heading. Although in starlight blue.

I'm surprised there's not more people with colour coded front ends.

@ROMANY TAMPIN has colour coded his grills Imodium () grey and it looks really good, worth checking out but most people just go gloss black (me included).
