We had purchased our T6 with a flat-bottomed r steering wheel with all the buttons working. We had a mobile tow bar fitter fit a towbar and our steering wheel buttons stopped working soon after, which may or may not be coincidental. Looking for someone conversant with this conversion to diagnose and fix the problem, preferably in Kent or South-East, please.

From reading this, I would say no coincidence, fitter has done something if they were working before and not after. Get them back.

Is it a VW tow bar module you had fitted? Did they have to code it? If so then I would expect they have altered your coding and it needs correcting by someone with VCDS or similar.

Does your horn work?

No it wasn't a VW one, was quoted £1200, although in hindsight it might have been a better bet. It did subsequently go into VW for servicing etc which we normally do, so I asked them to see whether there was any faults, they couldn't find anything, however it seems after market additions don't show up or as I was told aren't anything to do with VW. Yes the horn works OK. The towbar fitters did do something like coding, which is what I was worried about, if they just coded it to the original spec. To be honest I don't think they were up to any technical difficulties.

Yes I did get them back, all they demontsrated was with a plug in trailer board that the lights were working, as I say in the other reply, I think they may have coded back to original spec, but I'm not sure they were up to it, really.

It might be worth getting your coding checked by the sounds of it.

Yes I now believe that's the problem. I saw a YouTube video on replacing a normal steering wheel with a flat bottomed golf R steering wheel, which we have and it shows the choice you the coding choice that can be reprogrammed accordingly. We now need someone, preferably in Kent/E.sussex who can do this.
